wiLdLife serenades

all my friends know of amit's wild wilderness lores...how he was startled to see a BIG CAT right thr in his resort varandah @ Kanha National Park.... dont know if its the blown-outa-proportion version, but his anecdote still freaks me.. in one of our escapades to Periyar, i snuggled so close to the elephant cub for a snap tht i actually hurt my cheek with its ovrgrowth (they hv mighty long bristle-like hair all over their body)...my friends still tease me 'pachyderm lov-bite' ; ).... Indian wilderness is SIMPLY STUPENDOUS...AGREE?

National park Hmmmm. Kids love to see those wild animals, dont they?

i was abt 8 yrs old, a 3rd standard toddler, whn i visited the kaziranga national park as a part of school excursion.

God, it was such an experience. whnever we saw an animal, the kids (including me) gav out such roars that the animal use to run away from there.

the rhino, wow, i always thought of it like, it was a little more in size than a bull, till that day whn a rhino charged our jeep. the teachers were cryin, the security guard firing rounds in the air, me stuck in a dilemma whether to cry, shout or tak a close look at the beast. it looked so huge.

the elephant safari was memorable too. i could see a tiger below, whn i looked down from my seat ( on elephant's back). took a tight grip of my teacher's hand.

out an out, it was a great experience. India has so much to offer in terms of wildlife. since i m in gujarat nw, wud love to take a ride thru GIR forest, and hopefully see the great maned beast.

Have you heard about this new species in the block called 'LIGERS'? Well, Ligers are what results when a male lion falls for a female tiger ---- a hybrid between the two, that is. And if cupid strikes vice-versa, then its called a tigon (father= tiger; mother= lion). Gender, bias in naming them what say? And the interesting thing is, Ligers are the hugest Big Cats (weight 900 pounds and standing almost 12 ft), whereas Tigons are dwarfs!!!

And this cupid-confusion can only happen in captivity. Out there in the wilds the male sure would be preferred for dinner by female's clan, rather than allow some infatuation of that kind!!

Check out the video at: http://www.eglobe1.com/index.php/2006/10/03/liger/

A journey to a wildlife journey is an exhilarating experience, I have visited so many parks in India, but my journey to Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary is a memorable one.
